Lecture by Prof. Rotem Giladi: "Emancipatory Flogging: Jewish Bodies, Corporal Punishment, and the Empire's Political Authority"

The international conference will convene over 150 scholars to explore the dynamic and interconnected histories of law, colonialism, and empire. Professor Giladi’s paper examines episodes of corporal punishment to consider the body as a medium through which the political authority of the British empire could be invoked, asserted, coopted, and resisted.
