The year 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD), adopted by the United Nations on December 21, 1965. We invite scholars to submit proposals for our international conference, "Opposing Racial Discrimination: Historical Struggles and Legal Perspectives," taking place May 11-12, 2026, at Mt. Scopus.
The adoption of ICERD followed contentious debates among states, international institutions, and civil society actors. This symposium brings together scholars to reflect on the Convention's history and legacy, while also addressing broader questions related to anti-racist and anti-antisemitism activism, international law, diplomacy, and civil society's evolving role in confronting racial and ethnic hatred.
We welcome proposals for 20-minute presentations from researchers working across historical, legal, and political perspectives. Submissions should include an abstract of up to 350 words and a short bio of up to one page, sent to Dr. Tom Eshed at tom.eshed1@mail.huji.ac.il by February 8, 2026.
