We are thrilled to announce that our Visiting PhD Fellow, Anne Rethmann, has successfully completed her doctorate summa cum laude. Her outstanding dissertation, "The Nonidentical of Human Rights: The Individual and the Concept of Dignity in Post-1945 Human Rights Debates”, was completed at the Institute of Philosophy at the Free University of Berlin.

Prof. Dan Diner Awarded 2025 Sigmund Freud Prize for Scientific Prose by the German Academy for Language and Literature

We are proud to announce that Professor Dan Diner, Director of the Jacob Robinson Institute, will be awarded the prestigious 2025 Sigmund Freud Prize for Scientific Prose by the German Academy for Language and Literature. The Academy's jury praised Professor Diner’s outstanding scholarly work, emphasizing that he "has time and again interpreted Jewish history as a seismograph of modernity". The Institute extends its warmest congratulations to Prof. Diner on this exceptional recognition.

Our MA student, Asaf Segal Doron, presented his research on July 17 at the 2025 Central European History Convention (CEH-C). 
His poster presentation "Between Tradition and Modernity: Equality Before the Law at the 1861 Hungarian High Judge Conference" examined how Hungarian jurists conceptualized legal equality during 19th-century legal modernization. The conference brought together over 300 scholars from around the world to discuss Central European history from the Medieval period through World War Two.

We are proud to share that Dr. Tom Eshed has been awarded the Tereza Levinger Prize by the Strochlitz Institute of Holocaust Research at the University of Haifa, in recognition of his work on the history of Holocaust commemoration in Israeli cultural diplomacy. The prize is awarded to outstanding scholarly work that explores Holocaust memory from psychological, cultural, artistic, and social perspectives.
